In this week's delve into the archives, we head back to the early 1970s as all the young dudes gathered at Barrfields Theatre for their autumn dance.

"All the Young Dudes" is a song written by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, originally recorded and released as a single by the English rock band Mott the Hoople by Columbia Records.

Bowie produced the song, which he had given to the band, and would subsequently record the song himself.

Largs and Millport Weekly News: Largs opened its first ever Citizens Advice Bureau in Boyd Street in 1973, and was ready to answer questions on a wide variety of subjects and assisting people with their financial needs.

The building was altered and redecorated by Ayr County Council at a cost of £5,000, and was also a Largs and District Community Office, providing accommodation for the social work department service and for the Women's Royal Voluntary Service for the distribution of Welfare food (see photo below).

Largs and Millport Weekly News: In September 1973, Mr Kenneth Stewart, a director of Airgo Ltd, arrived in Millport by helicopter, landing at a public park. It was believed to be the first time a civilian helicopter had landed on Cumbrae.

And Largs Thistle paraded their new signings for the 73-74 signing including John Frazer, who returned to Barrfields Park after a stint at St Johnstone, John Morrow, Bernard Beggans, John Harkness, John Griffen and David Ballantyne.
