The long running flooding issue at the marina entrance on the A78 in Largs has had a fresh development this evening.

There were concerns raised earlier today over the length of time the works were taking with temperatures set to plunge.

Councillor Ian Murdoch said: "I am very pleased to see that the pump has now been installed behind the wall at the golf course.
"This has resulted in a dry south carriageway.
"During my on site meeting with Amey last week, we agreed that a pump would be installed to redirect the water behind the wall and into another outfall until a permanent solution could be found.
"I asked for the pedestrian underpass to be cleared of water and for sandbags to be placed alongside the A78 to prevent the water flowing down to the Underpass.
"I also asked for a temporary bus stop to be located at the driest point as people were being soaked.
"We also agreed that a gritter would be on site to prevent the road from freezing.
"It is extremely frustrating that actions were not taken earlier and the source of the problem was not confirmed earlier.
"It's frustrating that the gas pipe and sandbags were an issue.
"However, the officers I dealt with on site and off, were extremely helpful."

Earlier today concerns were raised over  the possibility of a serious accident if a solution was not found with colder weather forecast - see here https://www.largsandmillportnews.com/news/23955195.ayrshire-largs-councillor-fuming-road-flood-delay/

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Roads campaigner Archie Burleigh, who sent in the above photo, said: "This is why the A78 flooding at golf course brae has stopped. The large vacuum pump has been deployed at the inlet to the blocked culvert and is overpumping to the burn running down in front of the 3rd Green.

Meanwhile the Culvert remains blocked until the excavation team arrive on site."
