Road traffic congestion is being reported on the A78 near Largs Yacht Haven this lunchtime.

Temporary traffic lights installed after work was carried out to fix a flooding hazard on the stretch of the road were stuck on red in both directions.

Motorists called the situation "a nightmare" - and "chaos" - with it being the second time in the past month that the situation has happened.

Councillor Ian Murdoch reported the matter to roads maintenance firm Amey just after midday on Friday.

Alan Cowan of Largs Community Resilience said: "The road is cleared now. Amey are on site and have removed the bollards. Two way traffic no longer under light control."

Amey have been contacted for comment.

The recent flooding issue on the A78 was cleared on Wednesday afternoon after a four week wait, although an obstruction still lies within the culvert.

Local roads campaigner Archie Burleigh said: "The operations team on site have repaired the small inspection hole in the roof of the culvert on the east verge.

"They plan to reinstate the road surface today and remove the lights and have the road open as normal over the weekend.

"The pump is to remain in position meanwhile since the obstruction is still present within the culvert.

"Scottish Gas Networks were on site yesterday and I understand they are waiting to see if a new piece of extraction kit has any success within the culvert before further investigation.

"This is planned for Monday with traffic lights reintroduced."
