Residents are invited to a consultation event about a proposed planning application and marine works licence at Hunterston Construction Yard.

The event, hosted by Peel Ports Group, will take place at the committee meeting room at Garrison House, in Millport, on Tuesday, January 16, from 1pm to 5pm.

Attendees will be able to share their views about plans for the formation of a new quay wall and the infilling of the dry dock to service the offshore renewables sector with members of the project team.

This event follows two previous consultation events held in Fairlie during October and November.

The consultation process precedes the submission of a planning application to North Ayrshire Council and a marine works licence application to the Marine Directorate in early 2024.

Information about the proposals is available at www.hunterstonparc.com and if you are unable to attend, but wish to share your views on the proposals, email your written questions or comments to info@cameronplanning.com.

We previously reported in November that hundreds more jobs could be created at Hunterston with the repurposing of the marine construction yard.

A projected 900 jobs are already set to be created at the XLCC cable manufacturing development.

The Hunterston repurposed port would emulate a model seen in France, where wind turbine structures are built and floated out to the sea bed before the turbines are installed on top.

It has not yet been decided if the turbine blades and units would be constructed at the site.

The News was informed at a public consultation event that a similar site in France created 2,500 jobs.

Clydeport is considering options for developing Hunterston Port through the demolition and infilling of the existing dry dock and provision of a new quay on the western side of the site.

This will form a construction platform that can service the offshore renewables sector.
