A CHARITY bike ride to raise money for schoolchildren in developing countries will head to Largs next month.

The Pencil Case Project is planning an 82-mile ride from Auchterarder in Perthshire to The Pencil monument.

The project team say they hope to cover the distance in less than 12 hours on Saturday, March 30.

The charity is raising money to purchase school supplies and stationery to create a pencil case for schoolchildren in developing countries.

Each pencil case would contain the case itself, one sharpener, two graphite pencils, one ballpoint pen, one eraser, one 15cm ruler and up to five coloured pencils.

It is expected that there will be live updates across all of the Pencil Case Project's social media accounts documenting the journey.

A spokesperson from the organisation said: "We believe what we offer in each pencil case builds a strong foundation of learning and helps to support schools that are under-resourced.

"We are extremely grateful for any donations, big or small. Every single one will help to make a global impact.

"On average a pencil case will cost 96p so every donation will be making an impact no matter how small or big.

"We hope you can get as excited as we are about this charity cycle and there is not a more fitting finish location than the Pencil Monument in Largs.

"We understand the importance of making education accessible and hope that we have managed to convey our passion and dedication in making the pencil case project a meaningful and impactful organisation.

"No matter how big or small we recognize the value in every donation and know that every single penny will be helping to change the face of education one pencil case at a time."
