FERRY passengers have been warned of the potential for disruption to services between Largs and Cumbrae.

High winds in the Firth of Clyde prompted CalMac to issue an alert to travellers on Wednesday.

According to XC weather, winds are expected to reach 39 miles per hour this morning.

The weather alert comes on top of advice that the route is not operating to timetable because of ongoing problems with one of the ramps on the MV Loch Shira.

A CalMac spokesperson said: "This service is liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice due to adverse weather.

"This is in relation to a forecast of strong winds. Due to increased loading times, the vessel is currently not operating to timetable."

In relation to the ongoing ramp issue, the Cal Mac website states: "Vehicles may be required to reverse on/off the vessel if instructed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"We’ll keep customers informed should there be any further changes in connection to this route."
