A REMARKABLE year of sporting achievement at Largs Academy has been celebrated at an awards event hosted by the school's PE department.

The school's annual sports awards enjoyed a fantastic turnout from family, friends and teachers to celebrate the many achievements of the pupils in a sterling year.

And there is a new name on the Hall of Fame roster, that of 17-year-old Esther McGregor.

Her judo achievements in the past year have included impressive results representing her country in the Commonwealth Judo Championships and her school in the British Schools Judo Championships.

Esther also shone at the Scottish Open Cadet Championships, which were held in Largs, and she won the Scottish Closed U18 Glasgow title in 2022.

The secondary school recognised achievers at national and regional level as well as volunteers, players of the year and athletics champions.

A school spokesperson praised the high level of sporting calibre on offer, as well as the pupils' skill, determination and willingness to learn, adding: "Congratulations to all our young people on their awards and their achievements."
