In this week's delve into the archives, we head back to forty years ago as Largs said farewell to one of its most iconic buildings.

The Viking Cinema, based on Gogoside Street, had closed in 1973, before becoming a base for Wham's Drams, selling whisky and was a warehouse for the company.

But in 1984 the much-loved art deco building was finally razed to the ground, to be replaced by a residential complex.

The eighties was a time of change for Largs, and its buildings in particular, with The Moorings and the Marine and Curlinghall Hotel buildings also demolished before the decade was out.

A popular dance event took place at Barrfields Theatre with awards given out to the children afterwards. and as you can see, there were lots of happy faces, see below.

Sporting some impressive headwear were the 5th Largs Brownies who hosted an afternoon tea in Largs to honour former Brown Owls of the company at St Columba's Parish Church.

And in another blast from the past, the below picture shows the Happy Days Fitness Club. It was based in the building that would later become Lounge, soon to be transformed into No. Thirty3, expected to open later this summer.
