It was very much fun in the sun as the annual raft race in Millport returned to the seafront.
Water crafts of different shapes and size had to conquer the high winds in order to reach the finishing line in challenging conditions on Saturday with fluctuating fortunes of success.
Praise goes to all the fantastic teams who took part in the much loved and traditional event which has been running in Millport seafront since the early 80s and supports local causes.
But this weekend was certainly a tough assignment, with high winds making it difficult for some teams even to get out of the bay.
A special thank you to Moira Hodge for organising the event and to all the amazing volunteers who made it possible.
And there was royalty present as Cumbrae Queen Zoe McArthur kept an eye on proceedings, as she arrived in her full royal dress.
‘Luca’s Lasses’ and ‘Millport Town Hall’ made a brave attempt to get out of the bay but couldn’t beat the waves
‘Chrispy Gull’ and ‘Steer to the Pier’ made it to the finish line with a tow, and ‘Barbie-Q’ made it all the way under their own steam for a big celebration at the finish.
The event was enjoyed by big crowds and once again was a fantastic spectacle along the seafront.
Thank you to Cumbrae Charm Media for the photos.
