Dog lovers have been issued a warning about letting their four-legged friends onto the bed with them.

As the months get darker, an evening cuddle with your pets at night may be the answer to a cosier sleep.

New research revealed by MoneySuperMarket claims that nearly half of us Brits (44%) are choosing to share our bed with our cats or dogs each night.

But while this may sound like a delight, your pooch or feline may be causing havoc to your sleep and your relationship.

The survey conducted by YouGov in August 2025 of more than 1,000 pet owners found that one in three (32%) lose sleep because their pet wakes them at least once a night.

This can not only lead to disturbed sleep for the pet owner but can also affect their relationships.

Statistics found that 40% of cohabiting couples and 33% of married couples reported being regularly woken by their cat or dog at least once a night.

Kara Gammell, a life insurance expert, said it's important to get your furry friends checked out regularly at the vet's.

Not only will this help eliminate your own stress and give you a peaceful night's sleep, but it will make sure your pet's sleepless night isn't a sign of an underlying health condition.

Kara said: If your furry friend is restless at night, it could be a sign of an underlying health issue, and that can have a knock-on effect on your own sleep and stress levels.

"A good night's rest is vital for emotional resilience and even relationship satisfaction, so it's worth checking in with your vet if something seems off.

"Pet insurance can help cover the cost of consultation and treatment, giving you peace of mind and helping to protect both your pet's health and your household harmony."
