Community Council

Inverkip and Wemyss Bay Community Council held their meeting in Wemyss Bay this month and many items were discussed. The problem with disruption by youths had had some success as had the problem on the trains. However there were those present who had caused to be concerned by the dirty trains and disruptive youths. The ongoing problem of groups not being asked to pay was also mentioned.

The photographs of neglected areas in the village that were sent to the council had some effect with areas being tided up. There are still areas needing attention such as the footpath from the last houses outside the village and the power station. Overgrown bushes and long grass can be seen in passing.

Transerv were contacted regarding areas under their ownership. The council run the maintenance for the Main Street, and Transerv run the maintenance for trunk roads such as the A78.

It was pointed out that Transerv do weekly drives/visits to monitor road conditions. This might come as a surprise to many who encounter damaged and potholed surfaces for months if not years.

Pavement parking

The problem of cars on pavements has been raised in the past and this continues regularly at the old Police Station and even now on the pavement by the bus stop. The question of some sort of deterrent was raised and something similar to the granite “ball” type that had to be put on the pavement by the Gourock Swimming Pool was to be considered.

Inverkip Community Hub and Wemyss Bay Community Centre each received £250 from the council. Fundraising for Defibrillators is ongoing.
