HRH The Princess Royal was due to officially open a new, state-of-the-art butchery production premises at McCaskie’s in Wemyss Bay on Wednesday morning, as we went to press.
The royal visitor is carrying out the engagement in her capacity of President of the Scotch Beef Club, run by Quality Meat Scotland.
During the visit she will meet with the Ovens family and staff and tour the new Renfrewshire facility, which has been developed with an investment of around £800,000. McCaskie’s is run by Nigel and Helen Ovens, in partnership with Nigel’s mother, Elizabeth, whose father established the business in 1935.
Scottish Craft Butchers have recognised Mearns T. McCaskie with a number of awards in the 2018 Scottish Craft Butchers Savoury Pastry Awards.
The award of these accolades are testament to the great care and attention we place on ensuring our pies continue to improve.
These awards are carried out as independent product evaluations by an experienced panel of judges.
Princess Anne opened the Boat Show at Kip Marina last year. After opening the show and unveiling a plaque to commemorate the event she visited areas of the show. The exhibitors in the Food and Drink Pavilion and the Lifestyle people with their crafts were pleased when the Princess took time to talk to the exhibitors before leaving the show.
