After Storm Desmond hit UK shores, it is interesting to take a look back at other storms which have hit the area.
One of the worst was in Boxing Day 1999 when a nursing home roof came off, while even Hunterston was in emergency shutdown due to the galeforce winds.
And former 'News' photographer Grahame Ross captured these marvellous images of a storm at Largs, from a way back in 1972, including outside The Moorings, Mackerston Putting Green once again submerged, and a CalMac ferry being battered by waves, berthed at the Pier. These pictures Grahame has uploaded onto Facebook.
Of course, it is not the first time that Mackerston has been flooded, and the same thing happened several years ago, but a big help along Largs seafront is the arrival of the sea defences which has helped prevent the flooding of Largs Main Street, which was a regular occurrence over the years, last happening in January 1999.
One of the most notorious storms happened in 1910 which resulted in the destruction of the Mackerston bridge, which had to be re-built and was named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, astronomer, benefactor, and decorated soldier - and governor of New South Wales.
