Main Street Closed

For a short time on Sunday 25th, Main Street was closed and barricades erected near the centre Bus Stop. Police were at the scene around 9.30am. The story is that some rough cast had fallen off a building.

Grass Cutting

It appears that although the Council has been asked to leave the roadside verges for a wildflower corridor this is not the case at the play park at Swallow Brae. Parents have been doing the cutting themselves and when someone raised the issue of who was responsible they were told that it was up to residents to make arrangements.

The house builders who built this estate handed over responsibility when all the houses were finished many years ago. Now as houses have changed hands in the area residents will have to make their own arrangements.

Litter Picking

Inverkip Church Eco Group have been having organised “Litter Picking” events. The question regarding the transport of the full bags was raised at a Community Council meeting as it was felt that putting them into car boots was not ideal. A request for help from the council brought the response that Inverkip was too far away, this statement would be investigated. The community wardens have offered help in the matter of removing the bags.

Many have felt that this has been the attitude of the Council, Inverkip at the lower end when it came to assistance etc.

Japanese Knotweed

The invasive plant Japanese Knotweed has appeared in Wemyss Bay. It’s hoped it can be dealt with by the council and people are warned not to attempt to remove it themselves if they see it and to report any sightings. This weed can take over as is evident on the banks of the Clyde between Skelmorlie and Largs.

Badges

The recent last meeting of Inverkip and Wemyss Bay beavers saw the distribution of badges earned by the young folk. Cooking or Healthy Eating Badges. 1 Hike Away and team Work Challenge badges were also handed out. Thanks are due to all those who have given their time to working with the group.

Christian Aid

Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Church were delighted to report that the sum raised at the Church for Christian Aid amounted to £964.33. Thanks to all who contributed.

Cycling

Clyde Activity Bikes recently held a free Group Cycle in Inverkip. 53 cyclists took part riding through Ardgowan Estate and surrounding area. The Community Council have said they will try to get arrangements in place between the Community Hub, Local and National Cycling Organisations and themselves to get regular Group Runs organised from Inverkip and Wemyss Bay via Inverkip Hub It seems that some of the group from Clyde Activity Bikes cut back overgrown buses on part of the cycle path.

Pictures on social media of the cycle run show that a great many areas need attention. The cycle paths need to be safe for both bikes and pedestrians.

Lift Problem

There was a problem with the lift at the station when it was out of operation. The problem has now been fixed.
