PeelPorts are pushing ahead with proposals for a marine licence for an extended jetty at Hunterston Platform Yard.

The company are holding the public pre-application event on the 22nd February from 2-7pm at the Seamill Hydro which will involve constructing an extended jetty and alterations to the abutments.

MSP Kenneth Gibson confirmed to the 'News' that he met with PeelPorts for two hours on Friday to discuss in detail their myriad plans for Hunterston, and will keep fully appraised of developments.

PeelPorts received planning permission for the yard to be used for the purpose of the construction repair and subsequent removal on completion of large marine structures".

However, PeelPorts say that since the original consent the demand for large marine structures has changed with the focus now being on the decommissioning of large marine structures in relation to the North Sea oil industry.

Environmental group Clyde Mammal Marine Group have highlighted concerns about the proposal, and are urging the public to attend the consultation, stating on their Facebook page that the proposal has implications for the marine environment including protected species such as dolphins and porpoises.
