EUROmillionaires Chris and Colin Weir officially opened the new 3G football facilities at Barrfields Park on Sunday.

After cutting the black and gold ribbon - Largs Thistle's colours - Colin Weir said that they had great pleasure in declaring open the park and hoped that the town would enjoy it for many years.

Thistle's first lady president, Margaret Brown, thanked the Weirs for the "wonderful gift" for the community and she hoped it would be used to its full potential by Largs and the surrounding area.

"May I take this opportunity to thank all of my committee and friends of Largs Thistle for the hard work they have put in to make it all possible." Morton FC Chairman Douglas Rae presented a commemorative salver to Mrs Brown, saying that the Greenock club was honoured to take part in the proceedings for the new pitch.

"It is a wonderful thing for you to have, and you will get wonderful use out of it. I wish you all the best in all your matches starting tomorrow!" In return, Mrs Brown presented Mr Rae with a plaque while Mrs Weir received a bouquet of flowers.
