Bon Accord City 2 Largs AFC 2

Largs made the long journey north to Aberdeen to take on Bon Accord City in the Third Round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday and will feel unlucky not to have progressed to the next round.

A controversial equaliser in injury time means the teams will have to replay this weekend in Largs.

On a very small, tight pitch the match started brightly with both teams threatening. The home side caused problems with crosses into the box but failed to hit the target with headed attempts. Mitchell’s strong running drew various free kicks, with one in particular being awarded midway through the half. Up stepped Fraser Russell to sublimely curl the ball up and over the wall, into the top corner of the net.

Largs pressed forward in search of another goal and forced a succession of corners. Captain Turley rose highest from one to head towards goal but was denied by a smart stop by the City goalkeeper. The away side eventually doubled their advantage when Mitchell deservedly scored with a low drive from 22 yards.

The home side managed to pull a goal back when a long free kick was headed back across goal before being scrambled over the line. Largs were still in the ascendency though and continued to make chances, but Calderwood and Fraser failed to convert.

In injury time, an overlapping player was being tracked by Mitchell, who was then taken out by a different player. This allowed a home player a clear run on goal who gave Seery no chance, sparking celebrations for the home team, whilst the away side appealed in vain to the referee.

With not long to go Largs tried to push forward again but Bon Accord seemed happy with the draw. The referee called time on the game and the two sides will have to do it all over again next week. Kick-off is 1.30pm with venue to be confirmed and as always any support would be greatly appreciated.

Largs AFC would like to thank Euro Plant Maintenance and Crane Hire Scotland for their generous donations that allowed us to travel to the game by bus, as well as JG Sharps for their continued support.
