Largs Gymnastics boys have once again made the grade!

Kai Chalmers and Grant Arneil of Brisbane Primary, Alasdair Peacock of St. Columba’s School, and Kerr Wilson of Largs Academy, competed at the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Scottish Regional Grades Qualifier which was held at Bells Sports Centre in Perth recently.

All four boys competed at their in age club development grade levels.

Kai Chalmers placed 5th with a score of 58.30 at Level 2, Grant Arneil won the bronze medal with a score of 61.2 at Level 3, Alasdair Peacock placed 4th with a score of 57.05, and Kerr Wilson placed 5th with a score of 52.80, both at Level 4.

These impressive scores qualify them for a spot on the team heading to Birmingham to represent Scotland at the British Gymnastics Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Grades Finals.

Also heading to the British Grades Finals and representing Scotland will be Largs Gymnastics Club teammates: at Club Development Grade Level 1, Kieran Walker of Dalry, at Elite Grade Level 1, Rob Russell of West Kilbride, at Elite Grade Level 2, Ethan Yates and Robbie Young, both of Irvine and at Club Development Grade Level 3 Matthew McGill of Gourock.

The boys competed over 7 rotations which included Floor, Pommels, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar and Personal Physical Preparation set.

The nine boys will compete in Birmingham on 13 and 14 November.

After Men’s Artistic Gymnastics successes at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships also held in Glasgow, the boys are motivated to do well for at the British finals.

The boys train between 20 and 24 hours a week on six apparatus under Head Coach Allan McKinnon at Largs Gymnastics Club at Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre.

A full programme of gymnastics classes is available at the Largs facility.
