Drongan United 0 Largs 3

Largs picked up another win on Saturday away at Drongan, but were made to work hard against a determined home side. The match became very scrappy. Eventually the red mist descended for Drongan who finished with 9 men, allowing Largs to run out comfortable winners.

Fraser’s throw in found Cockerill who tried to hook the ball into the area. The ball hung in the air, over the static goalkeeper and dropped in at the far post. 1-0 Largs AFC.

The second half began much in the same vein as the first – Largs trying to pass their way up the park with Drongan opting for the more direct route. Centre halves Turley and Connor were imperious at the back though – winning header after header between them.

Captain Mitchell was a thorn in the side of Drongan and it was his running which brought about the second goal. He latched onto the ball and drove into the box but his shot was saved. With two defenders challenging him he ended up on the ground. From there a defender inexplicably stamped on him in full view of the referee who awarded the penalty and sent the player off. With Mitchell recovering from the incident it was McGowan who stepped up and smashed the penalty high into the net.

McGowan latched onto a through ball from Russell and rounded the goalkeeper before scoring his second of the game to secure the victory. The Drongan goalkeeper saw red for protesting the goal.

Largs will look to continue this run when they host bottom of the table Crookedholm on Saturday at Barrfields. As always any support will be greatly appreciated.

Largs AFC 4 Crosshill Thistle 2

Largs battled to a deserved victory, coming from behind twice to beat Crosshill. The result also saw the local side move out of the relegation zone, however with several games in hand will look to push much further from there.

A free-kick found a striker free in the area and his first time volley gave Deans no chance in goal – going in off the post. Largs responded quickly though and equalised when Fraser’s through ball found Cameron who held off the defender before crashing a shot high into the top corner of the net.

Deans was left helpless again when Crosshill restored their advantage from another set-piece. A low driven cross from a short corner evaded defenders and strikers alike before being bundled over the line at the far post.

Mitchell latched onto a through ball from Fraser before lifting it over the keeper and into the net. Level terms at the break.

Cockerill soon found himself clear and his driven shot across the goalkeeper found the bottom corner to put the home side in front for the first time in the match.

The visitors struck the crossbar, and with time running out, Wilson came on for Fraser and was soon to score what proved to be the winning goal. Hawkins latched onto a cross but mishit his shot, with the ball falling perfectly into the path of the substitute. He made no mistake in guiding his volley into the net from close range.

Largs AFC would like to once again thank JG Sharps for their continued support and hospitality.
