Thistle assistant boss Arnie is predicting a big test this Saturday as Largs kick off their season with an Ardagh Cup cracker against Kilwinning, 2pm.
The Barrfields side looked impressive in their 4-1 win over Morton under-20s, but suffered a 6-3 jolt against Jeanfield Swifts, despite leading 2-0.
Largs last friendly encounter comes at home on Wednesday evening against Newmains United, winning 3-0.
Arnie (Stuart Davidson) said: "The Kilwinning game is a big test for us and we will see exactly where we are at in terms of the squad, team and fitness. It will be a right competitive game after the pre-season friendlies, and it will bring more of an edge to it.
Thistle are looking to make moves for keeper Sean Graham and full-back Ryan McMaster who have impressed in the friendly games, with Thistle still on the look-out for another midfielder and striker.
Arnie said: "The games are going to come thick and fast and it is a right good competitive section for the players to prepare for the league."
Looking at the sudden reversal of fortunes against Jeanfield, Arnie took a pragmatic view on proceedings, and said; "I was really disappointed as I thought we played really well against Morton U20s. In the opening 25 minutes against Jeanfield, we were playing at a high tempo and looking really good, but we just switched off when Jeanfield scored, and then they rattled in some goals. We were shellshocked and never recovered. It was disappointing that it was individual errors which cost us, but now is the time to rectify these issues before the season starts.
"We had a positive start but we are going to need to learn to recover when someone comes back at us as that is going to happen in the Premier league. I am loathe to use excuses but there may have been an element of tiredness after the Morton game, and the long bus journey, but at the end of the day."
"One positive from the Jeanfield game was that Robert Love got on the scoresheet, and his link-up play with both James Marks and Kevin Struthers has looked promising for the season ahead.
