JANUARY
Well known former Largs vet Melissa Donald completed her 100th ParkRun. Parkrun events take place around the country in pleasant parkland surroundings, and Melissa received a surprise presentation from Eglinton Parkrun director Ian Dorey at the end of the event.
Largs Thistle overcame ten man Kilwinning at Abbey Park to move off bottom spot for the first time in the season. However, Thistle suffered two narrow defeats in a row at home to Rob Roy and Beith as their bid to stay in the Premiership took a bodyblow.
Fairlie Yacht Club opened the year with some refreshing New Year races. Six boats and 38 people met at Largs Yacht Haven. Significant proved too fast for Solus to catch but they maintained their distance ahead of the rest of the fleet to record first and second places respectively.
Largs Thistle U16s recorded a thumping 11-0 victory at Cumnock. The goalscorers were David Griffiths x4, Ben Riley x 2, Reece Allan x2, Cammy Ferguson, Cammy Florence and Joyce Black.
FEBRUARY
Thistle pulled off their biggest victory of the season so far by toppling Scottish Cup champions Beith and sending them spinning out of the West of Scotland Cup. Nicky Jamieson scored the equaliser to make it 1-1, before the Barrfields men won on penalty kicks. Nine out of ten penalties were converted with Beith hitting the post from their one wayward effort.
A David Mills hat-trick inspired Largs Thistle AFC to a crucial three points against second in the league Crosshill at Bowencraig.
Largs Thistle U19s lost out 2-1 in their big top of the table clash against Port Glasgow, with Reid notching a consolation, and Jay Little rattling the crossbar with a free kick.
Millport Curling Club went to Stranraer to play for the annual Argyll Quaich competition. The eventual winning rink were Janie McKenzie, Christine McCulloch, Walter Marshall, Susan Forrest and Richard Stokes.
Thistle winger Alex McWaters returned to Greenock after a successful loan spell with the Barrfields outfit.
MARCH

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Abby Kane scooped two awards at North Ayrshire Provost's Civic Pride awards. The teenage swimmer, who won silver in the 2016 Rio Paralympics, won the North Ayrshire Sports Award and Young Citizen of the year.
Thistle U16s reached the Central YFL 16s League Cup final against Auchinleck 16s after winning 2-1 at Irvine Meadow 2001. David Griffin opened the scoring for Thistle early in the match after a Jamie Mills throughball. Griffin held off the centre backs and rounded the keeper before tucking home from a tight angle. Robert Jack's left foot shot put Largs into the ascendancy before Meadow's late consolation.
A gifted young rugby ace from West Kilbride enjoyed one of the proudest moments of his life at Murrayfield. Lochay Forbes, 10, from Ardrossan Accies led out and lined up for the Scottish Rugby team as an official mascot before their game against Wales.
A Fairlie goalkeeping coach was playing a prominent part in helping the Scotland stars of tomorrow after the national U17s made it to an international final in Croatia. Fraser Stewart, who lives in Fairlieburne Gardens, helped Scotland earn eight clean sheets in nine during the qualifying rounds for the competition final which was due to take place in Croatia.
A young and up and coming netball player from Largs, Ciara Knox McLean, was selected for Scotland U17s team to take part in the European Championships in Belfast.
Largs Thistle romped to their biggest win of the season with a 4-1 victory over derby rivals Kilbirnie.
APRIL
Largs runner Emma Baxter smashed a record to win a 10 mile Clyde Coast race. She was taking part in Greenock Glenpark Harriers Docherty Cup from Gourock prom to Inverkip on an unusually hot Spring day. Largs runners Harry McGill, Cameron Paton and Ruby McGill were first boy, first U13 boy and third girl respectively.
Largs Thistle's penultimate league fixture of the season was a must win against Beith and despite two goals from James Marks, Largs went down 3-2. The Barrfields side were forced to wait 58 days to fulfill their final league fixture. Largs also beat Scottish Junior Champions to be Glenafton 4-1 at Barrfields.

Thistle AFC gave their promotion hopes a significant boost with a hard fought 3-1 win at Catrine, with goals from Ryan McMunn, Cameron and Scott Fraser.
Largs Tennis Club played the opening round of their new Murray Cup tournament with doubles winners for the day being Crawford Boyd and Hazel Koerner.
The Millport bowling greens were officially opened by President and Club champion Andy Watson. Throwing the first bowl at Halkshill Bowling Club in Largs was President Robert Crawford's daughter Kate Crawford. 
Scotland faced off against the 'Auld Enemy' when they played England in a clash of football veterans over 50s at Inverclyde Sports Centre.
MAY 
Largs Thistle kids made it a whirlwind start to lift the Central Ayrshire League Cup. The Barrfields boys, led by coach Ally Burns, won 4-1 thanks to goals from Allen, Ferguson, McShane and Griffins. The youngsters made it a fantastic 15 games unbeaten. Ally said: "They should be proud of themselves as they thoroughly deserved the victory."
It was congratulations to Sam Torrance who was made an honorary life member of the European tour. The 63 year old received the accolade from chief executive Keith Pelley at a dinner at Wentworth in the build up to the BMW PGA championships.
At Fairlie Bowling Club Gents Opening Day, Vice President Robert McLaughlin received the winning trophy from Past President Eric McMillan, winning by 24 shots.
There was overseas success for the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Group as WSV Woudrichem hosted the first Dutch International St Ayles skiff regatta. Young Largs members were part of the North Berwick crew who took medals.
Graham Brown and James Armstrong won the McLauchlan Shield with a nett birdie 3 (by Graham) at the first extra hole of the play-off against Allan Douglas and Dougie Aitken.
West Kilbride golfer Shaun Hedger scored a gross 62 in the May Buchanan Medal Final over the Ardneil (White) course which was a new course record.
JUNE

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Largs Ladies 1 tennis team maintained their first division status with a vital win to see off Ayr Fort. The local ladies showed that they had the nerve to win the big clash as survival in the top flight went down to the wire. The ladies team, skippered by Sarah Cunningham, included her mum Lesley, Sue Wilkie, Hazel Koerner, Janie McKenzie, and Chris Reekie. 
Millport's John Jack Junior was selected by Scottish Golf to be one of only the promising junior players to form a team along with a professional in the Pro-Am at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish open at Dundonald. John was also a member of the triumphant Millport Gents team that won the Firth of Clyde Trophy.
A band of rowers made their appearance at the first coastal rowing regatta to be held in Lamlash, and the Firth of Clyde Coastal rowers certainly made their presence known by clinching two first places in the open men and open mixed categories, gaining a haul of 11 medals.
Largs Thistle AFC Player of the Year winners included David Cunningham and David Mitchell as Players' Player of the year, and Ryan McMunn as player of the year, and top goalscorer Sean Robb.
