Heathside 0 Largs Thistle AFC 9

Largs continued their recent hot scoring streak against Division 2 table toppers Heathside who not only were reduced to nine men, but conceded nine too.

The visitors set out with an attacking formation but the opening exchanges remained evenly contested, with both defences coming under pressure. For Largs, Hawkins-Sewell and Connor looked assured in defence with both making a number of crucial interventions in the first half hour.

The game exploded into life in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Largs opened the scoring when a Donaldson shot found the bottom right corner and Mills doubled the lead with an delicate chip from 18 yards.

With Largs now in control Heathside hit the self-destruct button with two of their number seeing red within five moments of madness. Largs' third followed shortly after with Donaldson finishing a neat move set up by Mills.

Largs numerical advantage proved too much in the second half and the floodgates soon opened.

Mills prodded home the fourth through the legs of the keeper before Donaldson completed his hat trick to get the fifth.

Experienced veteran Grant Cockerill soon got in on the act, firing home a low finish from a Marshall cut back, before Marshall himself notched a goal to top off his own fine performance.

Midfielder Russell, who he recently returned to the starting XI, was then played in by Mills before sliding the ball past the advancing keeper, resulting in a somewhat misplaced outbreak of rapturous celebration from the creative midfielder.

Substitute Craig McGill finished the route firing home a driven shot from inside the box to open his account for the season.

Largs play Auchinleck at Inverclyde next Saturday with a 2pm kick off.

The club would like to thank JG Sharps for their continued support.
