Following the endeavours of Team GB in the Winter Olympics, with the TV excitement keeping us up until the wee small hours of the morning during recent weeks, there has never been a better time to take up curling. Even Mr T of 1980s tv show ‘The A Team’ has expressed himself to be a fan, and there has been no doubting that the sport of great concentration and accuracy on the ice continues to gain a strong following thanks to Eve Muirhead and her team who have had everyone gripped to their seats. And while there was disappointment in the end with no medal at PyeongChang 2018, the publicity generated in recent weeks has been great for the sport. and indeed, Largs Thistle Curling Club have recorded some recent successes including The Garrison Cup and The Gourock Cup. Largs Thistle Curling Club has been active in Largs for over 200 years. They are a friendly club and have a strong membership but are always looking for new members who wish to engage in the exciting and skilled game of curling. They have games suitable for all ages in both mixed and single sex teams. Billy Strang of Largs Thistle Curling Club said: “ We are actively seeking new members for next season beginning in September. We are a mixed club with a diverse age range. We play at Greenock throughout the winter months. “If, after watching the winter Olympics this year, you feel the sport of curling is for you why not try out with your local club, Largs Thistle. We are arranging training sessions for newcomers at the beginning of the season in early September. “Please contact Billy Strang Tel. 01475674638 or email billystranggb@gmail.com for more details.”
