Largs Thistle Scottish Cup legend George Wall writes for the 'News' in his new sports column...
I am 59 just now, and turn 60 in July, but I am still scoring goals and playing for the Scotland veteran over 50s side.
I even scored in a charity friendly a few years ago against 'Supersonic' Stevie Connick of Largs Thistle at Barrfields.
I know the new Scotland manager Alex McLeish very well, so much so that I even texted him and wished him best of luck in his new job!
I even played against him in the Under 18s semi-final match. I was playing for Port Rangers against Glasgow United at Cappielow and we lost 1-0 way back in 1976.
I was quite surprised when chatting to Alex when setting up the Morton youth academy a number of years later that he remembered me as the 'ginger haired' defender in that semi final at Cappielow.
Looking ahead, it is all down to the players Alex picks and it looks like he has started off with a decent squad. If you look at the last time when he was Scotland manager he did alright and managed the side which won in France 1-0 through that superb James McFadden strike.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
He left Scotland to go to Birmingham and won the league cup with them against Arsenal, and then he moved on to Aston Villa before taking up some jobs abroad.
I am not sure about the League of Nations - I have seen the rules and it does seem quite a complicated competition, but I am hoping that my old opponent from my under 18 days Alex McLeish can do the right thing and help lead Scotland to our first international finals for the first time since 1998 - that would be a great achievement.

It was a good start last night with the victory over Hungary.
