It has taken them two and a half games to do it but Largs have at last toppled Cambuslang Rangers and overhauled them in the race for promotion.

The Barrfields side have edged ahead into third spot in the McBookie.com Super West 1st Division.

Thistle midfielder Alex McWaters netted the only goal of the game  with a header on 55 minutes, and was delighted to make it four goals in four games.

It was a goal-less first half, but the game sprang into life in the second half with two red dismissals for Cambuslang, and a late red card for Thistle's Martin Orr.

Alex said: "I just like to score goals! But the team did brilliantly today, and we just want to go up. Cambuslang are a decent team, with some decent players, but we were better.
"I played in midfield today, which was a different position for me, but it doesn't matter as long as I can get up and still score goals.

"Scott Adam did well to knock the ball on to me, and I scored the goal."
"The boys know we have to win all the remaining games, it is one down and four to go."

And the Thistle goalscorer, who has scored free kicks, long range efforts, and headers, is happy to be an all rounder, although admitted: "It doesn't matter if it goes in off my backside, as long as it is a goal!!"
