Largs Thistle Supporters 4 Scotland Veterans 2
It was a fantastic Friday as footballers came together for a great cause to help raise funds to enable blind veteran John Hutchinson to get his hi-tech glasses which will enable him to have his vision restored.
And Thistle helped John reach his goal as a magnificent total of £640 was raised on the night for the worthy cause.
John and his guide dog Bracken, and other Royal British Legion Largs branch members were in attendance for the big match which was played in splendid sunshine.
Largs Thistle legends came up with the idea and set the ball in motion for the charity game after reading about John's plight in the Largs and Millport Weekly News.
The 'News' have linked up with the Royal British Legion's campaign to get the 90 year the spectacles he needs to restore his vision, and be able to see his wife again for the first time in years.
The game was competitively played and it was the Scotland veterans side who began the early running and were in control of proceedings in the early stages

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
The Scotland veterans included former Thistle legends George Wall and Stephen Quigg who were both moved by John's plight to help organise this fixture. The veterans side included some familiar faces including St Johnstone midfielder Chris Miller who has also featured for Morton in the past.
The Largs supporters side had plenty of well-kent players including manager Stuart Davidson in midfield, but it was one of his coaching team who gained the plaudits on the night for a superb hat-trick.
Former Largs and West Kilbride amateurs striker Andy Scott was on fire and scored a terrific trio, rounded off with an audacious lob.
As for the Scottish veterans, they put in a real shift, taking the lead in this match, and never gave up the ghost. It was Stephen Quigg who showed his magic to set up the first goal, and then he netted the late consolation.
It was certainly a case of rolling back the years, and even Thistle President Peter Connor put in a late appearance as a substitute. Drummond Bone was also on the scoresheet for the Thistle supporters side.
As the players came off at the end, John was standing at the ramp as players returned to the dressing room, and individually thanked every player as they came off which was a really nice touch.
Legion President Peter Murphy said: "We are very grateful to Largs Thistle for hosting the charity match on behalf of the Royal British legion Scotland Largs branch to to help our much respected member John Hutchinson see again. I am delighted to announce that £640 was raised and we now have achieved the target and the glasses can now be ordered - a great big thank you to the people of Largs."

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Thistle legend Stephen Quigg said: "I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the special occasion including the referee David McPherson and all the players and Largs Thistle for use of the park and everyone that put money in for a great cause."
And 'News' columnist George Wall explained how he was stirred into action by reading our article about how John trialled out the super specs created by university boffins.
He said:"Reading the story, the thing that struck me was that he is partially sighted, and was involved in the search for these new spectacles and they work, and sees his wife for the first time in ten years and then they take them away again. Imagine that happening? As soon as I read that, I went down to Largs and spoke to Stuart Rumble of the British Legion, and then I phoned Peter Connor at Barrfields to arrange bucket collections for the Cambuslang game.
"Next thing I put it on Facebook, and Quiggy comes back to me and suggests what about arranging a game.
"To give the guy the power of sight, and then to have it taken away from him, I was very moved by that, and it is great to know that John will be getting his glasses.
"It was a fantastic night, and we are just glad that we could help."
A number of fundraising events have taken place for John's glasses including a charity raffle at The Fish Works, while the Royal British Legion of Largs have also donated £1500 to the final sum.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Speaking to the 'News', John, 90, said that he was most humbled by the fundraising efforts which have taken place in the community and wanted to thank everyone for their efforts.
