Day 1 - 4 Nations Tournament at Manchester.
I arrived at the hotel and checked in, and now heading for the game v Northern Ireland at Platt Lane - the ex-training ground of Man City. A few guys are missing due to injuries but we were determined to go and do our best.
The final score was 0-0 v Northern Ireland. It was a good performance by both teams in hot conditions. I thought Scotland just edged it - however, it was not to be. Missing a penalty late in the game did not help.
On to game tomorrow v England who beat Wales 2-0 in the other game tonight.
Day 2
Wakened early by my room mate Prof Gordon Mackay who is a surgeon to trade. Gordon committed to play in the the St Andrews Hospice Charity football game which takes place today at the Excelsior Stadium Airdrie playing alongside Graeme Souness, Neil Lennon, Ally McCoist and stars of River City and Still Game. I am sure he would rather stay with us and play England. Gordon is a ex Rangers player himself. Gordon will be a miss for us as I thought he was outstanding against Northern Ireland . He is though travelling back tonight in time for tomorrow’s game. That’s commitment.
Kick-off 2pm - the boys are ready.
Guess what? I slept in for the bus to the ground, must have been tired, fined.
Beaten 4-1 today. It's easy to say but it was not a 4-1 game but that was the score. We were getting beat 2-0 pulled it back to 2-1 ( Quigg ) denied what we thought, and England thought, was a stone wall penalty. Two goals at the end when we were chasing the game.
First England goal started when yours truly lost possession in midfield. Bus back to the hotel quiet.
On to Wales game tomorrow playing for pride.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
Day 3
Early kick off at 11:00am, with Wales beating Northern Ireland yesterday and England beating us only Wales and England can win tournament. Wales though need to beat us by five goals and Northern Ireland must beat England for them to win it.
The social gathering last night hosted by England was a great event.
From our hotel we managed to pick up some supporters who wanted to travel with us to the game.
Gordon Mackay has made it back from Airdrie after the charity game there which was reported on Sky Sports News.
We draw 2-2 with Wales after a hard fought game. The goal of the tournament came in this game with the keeper being chipped from 6 yards ... guess who scored ... no not Quigg, me.
Winners of the tournament were England who beat Northern Ireland 2-1.
Great tournament, great effort, great commitment from the Over 50’s with 3 ex Largs Thistle players in the team, Stephen Quigg, Stephen McCafferty and myself. Three games in three days is a big ask. The tournament has now been running for eight years and will be held in Scotland in 2019.
Let's hope it returns to Largs where the inaugural tournament was held.
