Age is only a number at Largs Thistle!

In a thrilling climax, I thought Largs deserved their win against Hurlford.

They started well and while Darren Henderson's men contested the two penalties I thought they were clear cut.

After the good start it was disappointing that Largs allowed Hurlford back in the game.

Both goals could have been avoided and at the break Hurlford looked the better team.

In the second half, I thought Hurlford started where they left off but the substitutions by Largs made a difference especially William Sewell.

His movement and pace caused Hurlford problems. Before the winner by Ben Black I could not work out if the three chances Largs had were bad misses or great saves.

Thinking back, I will give them to the Hurlford keeper .

Three points at home every game is what Largs should be striving for.

I feel Largs need to strengthen the squad and really need a experienced central defender.

* Thistle over 35s have enjoyed a terrific first season playing every Friday night at Inverclyde Sports Centre during the summer months.

They have been going great guns, and have only lost one league game all season which is quite a feat.

In one of our early games we lost out to Kilbirnie 4-2. It was 2-2 with only five minutes to go, and they scored two wonderful goals to clinch it.

We drew 0-0 with Auchinleck and 3-3 with Shortlees but in the other games we have been winning convincingly.

Robi Giovino - what a player he is scoring free kicks, and James Tyler who used to play with Irvine Meadow and Cumnock.

I reckon James could still do a job, he is fit as a fiddle, he is 37 and is doing triathlons. He scored six last week.

We have had supersonic Stephen Connick in goals too.

We played young boys of Partick at Inverclyde on Friday night and bounced back from 2-0 down to earn an important win in the Scottish Cup - could the cup be returning to Largs again?

Former Theesel players including Grant Cockerill, Scott McNicol, Stephen Quigg and myself feature.

The management team of Barry Wilson and Alan McGowan used to be involved with Largs Amateurs.

Hopefully the over 35s will become a regular thing every season under the community club umbrella.

A lot of boys used to play amateur with Largs and thought they were too old for the game but this gives them a fresh opportunity to play at a good level.

Glenn Martin and Derek Rodger have both on sparkling form too.

It is great that we have football for all ages with walking football too you can play right up till your 70s and 80s. Drew Cochrane has done a good job there, and it has really captured the interest with even Thistle committee man wee 'Nippy' Pat Rall playing

Although I turned 61 in the summer, I am still enjoying my football and if you keep fit, there is no reason why you can't keep on playing.

The famous saying which applies is: "You don't stop playing football because you are too old, you are too old because you stop playing football."
