Ardrossan Accies 44 Perthshire 10


Due to injuries and unavailability through work, several regular players were missing from the team sheet, writes Danny McGreish. Youngsters Neil Monaghan and Connor Small made their debut while Alan Wilson added his experience to fill the no 10 berth.
Accies simply blew away their opposition recording an 8 to 1 try victory. With a display of solid defence, a pack that had strength in depth and backs that have the ability to score from anywhere to secure the big win.
In very blustery conditions Wilson sent the ball deep into the Perthshire 22 , confusion in defence allowed Stuart Lamont to latch onto the ball and power over for the score , Wilson converted to put the home side 7 points in front after 4 minutes of play.
A very good move followed from the home side involving both forwards and backs, a drive to the line by Scott Campbell came close - the ball recycled - and quick distribution along the line was finished off by Ruairidh Anderson to score the first of his three trys. The conversion was missed.
On the 16th minute Accies scored again, Anderson broke through the Perthshire defence before offloading to Lamont to continue the drive, when tackled, Anderson was there again to gather and go over for the try. The conversion was missed but Accies were now on 17 points and beginning to dominate.
On the 30th minute Accies scored their 4th and bonus point try and quite possibly one of the best try's scored at the memorial field. Andy Duncan gathered on his own line then burst upfield - his pass outside found Connor McCann to carry into the opposition half - inside to Neil Monaghan to
continue the move - back inside to Scott Campbell - then finally to Ruairidh Anderson to score, the conversion was good by Kyle Wood to put Accies on 24 points.
Accies scored again on the 5th minute of the 2nd half, after Connor McCann gathered a deft kick to the corner by Andy Duncan and went in for the score. The conversion was missed.
The home side further extended their lead on the 10th minute, after a grubber kick through the visitors defence resulted in footrace to the line which was won by Andy Duncan to touch down. The conversion was missed.
Connor McCann notched his second try but the conversion was missed with Accies now on 39 points.
With 20 minutes remaining Accies used their bench with Connor Small,Andy Hales and Fraser Gilbert all appearing.
With 10 minutes remaining Accies scored their 8th try of the match after Scott Campbell finished off a driving maul to score. The conversion was missed.
Perthshire did however managed a try on the last move of the game, when No 5 Jack crashed over for the score. The conversion was good.
This was a good win for the well balanced home side, they have a formidable pack and outside backs that possess real pace and can strike from anywhere.
