Two Largs Thistle legends from the triumphant 1994 season were reunited on the West of Scotland padel tennis courts at Stevenston Industrial Estate last Wednesday evening. 

'News' columnist George Wall joined up with Thistle striker John Byrne who is the no.1 padel player and coach at the club at Stevenston Industrial Estate. And George got off to a flyer with John winning his first game 6-1, and also rounded off the evening with a tie-break victory. George said: "It is a great game and I really enjoyed playing with my old team-mate John Byrne."

And it was congratulations to John who triumphed in the UK Padel Tour seniors on Sunday.

John Byrne was victorious at the Vets final of the British Padel Tour with David Borton (Ireland) winning the final 6-1 6-1. John is head coach at the West of Scotland padel centre at Stevenston Industrial Estate. Free padel nights for people wanting to give the sport a try take place on Friday nights throughout October from 7-9pm.

Other famous football links with padel including Premiership bosses Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp who regularly play the sport, as well as former Chelsea defender John Terry, and Celtic's King of Kings striker Henrik Larsson.
