In his weekly football column, Largs Thistle legend George Wall gives his memories of the night Thistle partied away at The Queen's Hotel after the club's Scottish Cup win in 1994.

*I see the Queen’s Hotel in Largs is being demolished and Archie McPherson commented on the occasions the Scotland team stayed there.

The hotel has another big football connection to the town on top of Jimmy Johnstone's rowing boat antics on Largs seafront in 1974!
Some of the Largs Thistle players stayed there in 1994 when we won the Scottish Cup and what a night that ended up but as they say 'what happened in the Queen’s stays in the Queen’s', great times, no video evidence available.

It is very sad to see the former hotel has been knocked down and brings back plenty of happy memories.

*Happy Birthday to one of Largs Thistle’s ex managers Erik Sorensen who turned 81.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Erik won the league title with Largs in 1984. Erik a danish international also played with Rangers and Morton, he also managed Morton and Dalry Thistle. What a motivator, tactician, disciplinarian, all round great guy is Erik. I first played for Erik at Dalry when he took me from Morton on loan then again under him at Largs.
One memory I have from my time at Dalry was when the players were arriving for the game. Into the dressing room walked our centre forward and top goal scorer eating a cream bun, Erik took hold of him, turned him around and sent him home telling him he was not professional, not fit to play and would see him at training.

* * Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 760th goal last week, what a achievement, what a player. It was thought that tally gave him the all time record however that is disputed by the Czech FA who claim Josef Bican scored 821. I also seem to remember a TV news article showing Pele scoring his 1000th goal however regardless who holds the record for me Ronaldo is the best player of his time.
* I was astonished to see Frank Lampard given the axe at Chelsea. He is a club legend - and a very young and promising manager.
It is a crazy decision and he has only had his own players in for half of the season.
I think the deal was done with the ex PSG manager Thomas Tuchel a long time ago and regardless of what Frank did he was moving on.
