Largs Thistle Amateurs are back in action already with the club boosted by a 'Supersonic' signing to their backroom staff.
Former Largs keeper Stephen Connick is back at Barrfields as a goalkeeping coach and with his influence on board Thistle AFC hope to soar in the new season.
The club have been taking part in a tournament at Stewarton with games on Saturdays and Wednesdays throughout June giving the 25 strong squad the opportunity of some game time.
The amateur season doesn't start till August with Thistle playing in the second tier but manager Burns is hopeful that his side can look make a big impact by the time of the big kick-off.
He said: "First and foremost, is great to be back after a lengthy lay-off.
"The boys have all been at training even when it was non contact and now they have full games to look forward to it has given them a purpose.
"We have 25 signed players which is the maximum you can have at our level so we are well prepared for the season ahead.
"We have training on Tuesday and Thursdays - and after the tournament is over we will be looking for Saturday friendlies."
Largs have moved up to sign some of the players who featured in the Under 21s who are now over the age limit in Jack Rafferty, Andy Monk and Ross Colquhoun.
And Burns is delighted to have secured legendary Largs Thistle keeper Connick as goalie coach
He said: "It couldn't be better having him coach James Barbour - he was coaching the kids at mini Morton and he is really enjoying it.
"We only have one keeper in James so if he is injured there is the opportunity for Stephen to pull on the gloves once more as cover. He has kept himself super fit and it is going to be a big help with the defenders we have at training in terms of awareness."
Another big signing if Michael Hart who has re-signed and now in his late 30s having been top of the goal scoring charts with the likes of Largs Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers in the past.
Burns said: "You never lose that goalscoring touch and it is great to have Michael back - he couldn't make training on Tuesday but hopes to make it on Thursday and has every intention of playing which is good news.
"It is great having some experience with Gus Gault behind the scenes too as coach - the next oldest player to Michael Hart is Steven Bonn and Craig Marshall who are 28, and after that we are down to the early 20s."
Burns said he is ambitious for the new season: "As a first division club, we have to always be looking to get into the Premier.
"During the 2019-20 season, we had a tough start and we had managed to fight our way out from bottom spot and then 2nd bottom spot, and we were making ground and getting away from relegation when the season came to a halt.
Largs had a difficult opening game to the Stewarton tournament as they suffered an 8-1 defeat but it was the team's first proper run-out since August - and Burns believes that with two and a half months of friendlies before the season begins there is plenty of opportunity to build and improve.
"The training turn-outs have been tremendous and we are in quite a unique position that we have our 25 player squad already so it gives us some time to get plenty of friendly games in and become sharp."
Burns said even from his own personal point of view it was great to be back with the lads and all the camaraderie which comes with it.
"It is great to see the enthusiasm among the boys - they have mostly all grown up together and know each other well."
Largs will be playing their fixtures at Barrfields and Inverclyde Sports Centre depending on availability.
In terms of the quest for goals next season Burns reckons there is a few good options.
He said: "As well as the experience of Hart, we have Carol Capocchi and Brendan Hill - we have a very balanced squad with defence, midfield and attack, and our aim is to hit the ground running when the new season begins."
In the Stewarton tournament, Largs Thistle AFC also play against Glenburn MW and Minishant.
