Largs used their full plethora of players as they produced a stunning comeback to down Winton at a sun-drenched Barrfields Park.

It was the first football for fans in nearly 500 days at Barrfields Park, and they were treated to a highly competitive friendly fixture.

However, the bustling crowd of 161 was silenced in the first minute after a smash and grab goal from Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

But Largs rallied after that and notched a quick equaliser on eight minutes (see video clip above) as George Sewell was quickest to react from a corner to nod home. Indeed, it was the first goal in front of supporters in 497 days since Simon McBryde scored against Troon in a 3-0 victory on February 1 2020.

Thistle stepped it up and scored a spectacular second after scintillating wing play from former Waterside Karori New Zealand forward Jack Haggerty who cleverly curled a brilliant effort into the bottom right corner of the net on 44 minutes.

Haggerty nearly added a spectactular third as he bounced a piledriver from 30 yards off the underside of the crossbar on the stroke of half-time.

It was an open and entertaining game with both Largs keepers Jamie McGowan and Danny Farrell having to make slick saves in each half respectively.

Largs also went close to extending their lead despite the loss of talisman striker Scott Adam who was replaced by experienced frontman Keir Milliken.

All in all Thistle boss Stuart Davidson declared himself happy with the workout but felt Winton were handed too many chances - and wants to tigthen up the defence.

However, he said the most important thing was having the supporters back which made it such an important day for everyone involved - a feeling echoed by players including match winner Haggerty who said the team were buzzing after the victory with the fans back to celebrate.
