IT was a poor result for Largs against Darvel on Saturday. I did not think Largs turned up for the game.

I really expected more from them. The last game I watched Largs was against Irvine Meadow, and they played much better that day. Darvel really did not have to work for the result.

The game featured two penalties - the first one I thought was not a pen, but the second I agreed with. I can’t remember Jamie McGowan having to make a save from open play. Largs had three clear cut chances in the second half with the score at 2-0, and had one of them gone in, it may have set up a grandstand finish, but it was not to be.

Talking about penalties, Ross County v Celtic - another 'never a penalty' moment. Another crazy VAR interference too. Why the ref Willie Collum just did not say 'no' after looking at the screen I have no idea. I just can’t see how he thought it was a pen, but I suppose it’s 'swings and roundabouts' with similar decisions being applied to all clubs.

I see Ross County gave a starting debut to 16-year-old Dylan Smith at centre half, which is fantastic for the young man. Malky Mackay, a centre half himself, must have great confidence in Dylan’s ability. Let’s hope Dylan goes on to great things - it's great to see a young Scottish player getting his chance.

It was a great result and performance from Scotland against Spain. Outstanding. I am getting some stick for my comments about “is Steve Clarke the best man for the job” - let’s hope I am proved wrong and we do get to the finals. It would be some achievement.

It was a bit of a bump back down to earth for Andy Robertson after that Spain result, though, with Liverpool getting beaten 4-1 by Man City on Saturday - and I thought Andy was to blame for the first two goals with 'schoolboy errors'.

Back north of the border, it's Celtic v Rangers this weekend, and a win for Celtic will realistically - albeit not quite mathematically - see them crowned Premiership winners before the top flight is split.

For me the best bit of the split in Scotland is the relegation battle. Ross County, Kilmarnock and Dundee United are all fighting to avoid the play-off and relegation spots, while the other teams in the bottom half look to be safe.

And it was a 2-1 victory for Largs Thistle 35s, sponsored by Cullis Amusements, in a friendly game away to Glenburn in Irvine.

A deserved win.
