Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...
Largs Thistle have announced the signing of goalkeeper Joe Wilton from Kilbirnie Ladeside. I have watched Joe a few times and he is a good signing . I know the supporters at Kilbirnie are unhappy to see him go but are wishing him well. Let’s hope he follows in the footsteps of myself, Jim Marner, Bobby Davidson, Frank Morrison, Alan Rodgers, Adam Russell, Barclay Feeney all ex Ladeside players who had great success at Largs. With Ladeside not getting promotion there will not be a “derby” game again this year. It was a game I always looked forwarded to.

All promotions to the WoSFL Premier from the First Division are now confirmed with Benburb, St Cadocs and Gartcairn going up to the top division. I must admit it is great to see Benburb going up. My great friend Frank Lovering is the president there and his son Paul the manager; what passion they both have for the game.
They were 3-1 down on Friday night against Kilbirnie, needing a win to stay in the promotion hunt. Paul drove his team on from the sidelines and Frank from the terracing, helping then run out 4-3 winners. Results went their way on Saturday and they are now promoted.

In the Scotland Woman’s League Glasgow City won it after beating Rangers at 1-0 Ibrox; a great achievement when you think of resources both Rangers and Celtic have. Over 15,000 were at Celtic Park for Celtic v Hearts and over 10,000 at Ibrox. Celtic, Rangers and Glasgow City all went into the last game of the season with a chance of winning the league. Both City and Celtic, who finished second, go into the woman’s Champions League. Next up for the woman’s game is Rangers v Celtic at Hampden in the Scottish Cup final.

In England Man City won the Premiership.
It is now five titles from six, and three championships in a row. I feel they will now go on to win the FA Cup against Manchester United and the Champions League against Inter Milan.
Unfortunately Largs Thistle 35s, sponsored by Cullis Amusements< went down 3-1 through in Edinburgh in the Scottish Cup. This week we are at home to Kilbirnie’s Valley Vets in the league.
