A total of 66 players took part in the annual Ferdi Righetti Seniors Open Trophy at Millport Golf Club on Wednesday.

Participants travelled from as far as Manchester and Aberdeen on a sun-drenched day on August 9.

Millport past captain Alex Haggerty was out early and leader in the clubhouse all day with 41 points, holding off tough opposition from others until the final ball was struck.

With some 14 winners across three age categories, the event is growing stature on the seniors circuit.

Notable throughout the day were the compliments received on the condition of the course after what had been a tough few years, so congratulations to the greens staff.

Thanks were offered to the catering team and organisers and in particular to the sponsorship of the event by Ferdi’s son, Umberto Righetti, who whilst not there in person, sent his warm regards to all from his home in Australia.

The Millport club runs approximately six open tournaments annually.
