Largs Thistle's game against Clydebank was off on Saturday along with all other games in their league but three games were played on Friday night, with Cumnock, Hurlford and St Cadoc’s all picking up three points.

Largs finish 2023 in 11th place in the table with Gartcairn, who are in 9th place, up next at Barrfields.

It was Friday night football for me watching the Port Glasgow v Girvan third division game. Girvan won 2-0, which they deserved, leaving Port Glasgow in 14th position.

The Port really need to start picking up points to avoid relegation. The effort is there from them but it’s just not happening.

Celtic v Rangers was a good game of football in my opinion, with both teams out to win.

What a strike by Kyogo for the second goal for Celtic, deserving to win any game.

The game though will be remembered for VAR controversy, with Rangers asking for the audio recording of the incident to be released.

I thought it was a clear penalty at the time, it was certainly not a goal kick that the referee gave. This debate will rumble on until the audio is released and beyond.

Another VAR debate this week must be at Hearts v Ross County; two stonewall penalties for Hearts in my opinion.

The football story of the week has got to be Arbroth’s sub goalie Ali Adams, who was put on as a striker due to there being no other subs left on the bench. He rattles one in from around 30 yards.

What a league debut for his team that is. It seems it's not the first time he has scored, having previously netted with a 55-yard free kick again playing outfield with Tranent. Well done Ali.

Staying in the Championship, I took in Greenock Morton's 3-0 win over Ayr United at Cappielow yesterday, with Robbie Muirhead netting an impressive hat-trick.

Morton were bottom of the table at the start of December but are now unbeaten in seven games.

They are flying under Dougie Imrie as they face up to a sizeable challenge against Dundee United this weekend.

I would like to wish a speedy recovery to my friend and ex-Largs Thistle Secretary Taffy Dicks after his recent illness.

A great man and servant to Largs Thistle. Take care Taffy and get well soon.
