Former Largs Thistle winger George Sewell has signed for Premiership rivals Irvine Meadow in the West of Scotland Premier League as they bid to move off the bottom spot.

There had been rumours last month that Premiership club Gartcairn were also making a move for an industrious and versatile player.

However, basement strugglers Meadow announced George's capture this morning on their social media.

The 25-year-old started his career at Largs Thistle in 2019 before moving to Cumnock in 2022, and was put up for transfer last month.

His twin brother William returned to Largs Thistle last season after a stint with Scottish Football League Two club Stenhousemuir, and is currently the club's top scorer.

Both twins made history as they scored in the same match at Cumbernauld two seasons ago, which is a rarity in Scottish football.

George will be reunited with ex-Thistle midfielder Simon McBryde, who moved to Irvine Meadow last month after four years with Largs.

Largs, currently in 11th place in the table, boast former Meadow stars Jamie Martin and David Ramsay in their ranks.

They are set to encounter McBryde and George Sewell when the two North Ayrshire rivals clash at Barrfields on February 17.
