If Largs are looking for inspiration this weekend, they need look no further than when Thistle pulled off a stunning victory over Pollok in 2011, when the Glasgow side were league leaders.

Largs, then managed by Pat McIlvogue, dominated the majority of the encounter and were unlucky not to win by more.

A poignant one minute’s silence was held in memory of Brian Connick, the father of keeper Stephen Connick. Brian would have approved of the display.

The first half was a midfield tussle amidst a heavy downpour, with Largs having the edge. The first chance on target did not arrive until 35 minutes when winger John Roberston was on the end of a good passing move and sent in a bending shot, which was well collected by Pollok keeper Scott Morrison.

Thistle captain Eddie Walton superbly blocked Connolly’s effort as he chased down on goal, and Bradley then screwed a good opportunity wide from 12 yards on the stroke of half-time.

The home side were battling well in all departments and Thistle took the lead on 65 minutes after winning a free kick out on the right. Gus Gault delivered a long curving ball into the box and central defender Paul Coyle’s running header curled into the top right-hand corner of Morrison’s goal.

It was a classy header to put Largs one up, and the Barrfields men were not resting on their laurels as John Paul Dow brought out an excellent save from ‘Lok keeper Morrison, and midfielder Gordon Lappin scooped the ball over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Sub Roddy Hunter had the best opportunity for the visitors with a back-heeled effort which was well anticipated by Connick with a confident stop in testing conditions.
