IT'S looking like an exciting finale to the season in the West of Scotland Premier League after Beith chalked up another three points on Saturday.

Their 2-0 win at home to Benburb moves them to within four points of leaders Clydebank, but with five matches in hand.

St Cadoc's, who I mentioned last week, went down 2-1 to Hurlford, which was a surprise result that won't do their championship hopes any good.

Seventh placed Largs play Hurlford away in midweek, so they look to be playing a team on form, but with Thistle having been on a rich vein of form themselves it is all set up for an exciting clash.

On Saturday Largs look to continue their good form away to an Irvine Meadow side who, as I also said last week, look doomed to be playing their football in the First Division next season.

The first legs of the Scottish Junior Cup semi finals took place at the weekend, with Darvel winning 2-0 at Auchinleck and Arthurlie drawing 2-2 at home with Johnstone Burgh.

Both ties are very much still in the balance, though Darvel will certainly fancy their chances with home advantage in this Friday's second leg.

The first leg ties both attracted good crowds, with around 1,200 at Auchinleck v Darvel on Friday night and some 1,300 at Arthurlie on Sunday afternoon. When you look at the Lowland League Cup and its record final attendance of 627, it just shows you there's still an appetite for the Junior Cup.

This drama with the Dundee v Rangers game being called off a couple of times is farcical. The park was unplayable; get over it.

In my opinion Ross County's win over Rangers on Sunday was deserved. But what a weekend it was for the top leagues in both Scotland and England, with that surprise result in Dingwall handing Celtic the advantage here and Liverpool and Arsenal both losing on Sunday to give Manchester City a two-point advantage in the Premier League with six games to play.

Time is ticking down to the announcement of the Scotland squad for the Euros in Germany this summer.

It looks like Aaron Hickey will not be included due to injury. He hasn't played for some time now, and the word coming out of Brentford is that he will not play again this season.

Let’s hope that is not the case, as before his injury he had cemented his place in the team as first choice right back and his absence will be a big blow if he doesn't recover in time.
