Millport footballers returned to West Bay Park for the first time in a number of years to record a 4-2 win over a Field Studies Council select side from Newcastle.

A good crowd turned out to watch the match in the glorious sunshine on Tuesday evening, and everyone enjoyed the spectacle.

Millport played a full summer season right up until Covid, and it is hopes that the return of football to West Bay will kick-start a regular team again.

Gordon Hugh Lundie provided some match updates from the game, and very much enjoyed the spectacle.

He said: "It was a great night with Millport winning 4-2 and witnessed by a good crowd on the night,

"Hopefully there are more games lined up for the months ahead. I really enjoyed it - well done everybody who made the game possible.

"It is great to have football back at West Bay.

"Your mind goes back to the 70s and a warm night with the sun going down and spine tingling atmosphere as Millport take on Largs Thistle in front of a boisterous crowd.

"Anyway, those were the days. It's fair to say after the work they put in, they got the game  they deserved."

And Millport AFC, who used to host regular games at West Bay, put a message up on the Largs and Millport News Facebook page wishing the boys good luck, and stated: "Glad to see the youngsters putting the effort in to get things going again."

The venue used to host the Finlayson Cup match every year, while members of the fledgling Cumbrae Rugby Club squad have also been using the pitch for training recently.
