Largs businessman Les Ward has recalled how he met Des Lynam and Jimmy Hill from BBC TV's Match of the Day fame.
Les, who owns the I Love Largs shop in the town centre, is no stranger to stars of screen and sport, having even met Sir Sean Connery during a golfing out in Spain many moons ago.
And it was during a trip to Paris to support Scotland in 1998 that Les managed to meet up with suave tv presenter Des Lynam and his summariser sidekick Jimmy Hill, who was infamous for describing David Narey's opening goal against Brazil as a 'toe-poke'.
There is no doubting that Scotland would take a 'toe-poke' effort tonight if it beat Germany, laughed Les, when he recalled the meeting with the TV stars of the day.
Les said: "I was there with my pal Jim Fox and we had a bet whether Jimmy Hill, who had something of a love hate relationship with the Scotland support back then, to wear a Scotland top with famous TV presenter Des Lynam.
"Sure enough, Jimmy did just that and wore one of our shirts, and the song rang out around Paris: 'We love Jimmy Hill!'
"It was an incredible memory!"
