Whitletts AFC 2 - 2 Largs Thistle AFC

Largs continued their unbeaten run, but dropped two crucial points as they approach  the business end of the league campaign.

McGowan's men, already faced with a number of injuries to key players,  made life even harder for themselves when they handed the home side  a two goal lead inside ten minutes.

A long Whitletts punt up field caused havoc in Largs' central defence, allowing the home striker to break clear and knock the ball over the advancing keeper.

A second was added soon after when Largs failed to clear their lines and a shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net, via the outstretched hand of Cunningham and the inside of the post.

Largs immediately set about getting back in the game but were met with a Whitletts goalkeeper in inspired form, turning a point blank header over the bar and then making an expert save from Donaldson's close range effort.

Largs eventually found the equaliser when good work from McGill at left back set Donaldson moving forward.  The ball was played into Lindsay whose strong running allowed him space to fire home.

As the second half progressed Largs continued to pepper the Whitletts goal to little avail, with a number of chances being sent wide or being met by the on-form home keeper.

Injured club captain David Mills was then introduced from the bench and had an immediate impact.  The top scorer's shot on the turn deflected kindly for McGowan who was able to nod home from close range.

Whitletts almost sealed the points at the death when the home striker rounded Cunningham, but his shot from a tight angle was met by the sliding tackle of Craig McGill whose goal line clearance rescued a point for the away side.

Largs travel to Symington next Saturday for another tough league fixture.

The club would like to thank JG Sharps and Largs Thistle Community Club for their ongoing support.
