Largs Thistle's legendary striker from the 1950s, Davie Cook, passed away on Tuesday morning.
Thistle won the Vernon Trophy in the 1954-55 season with Cook scoring 70 goals. They went on to win the Western League Championship in 1957-58 with Cook again prominent in the scoring stakes as he scored 87 goals to lift the Western League Championship North in a huge achievement for the Barrfields club.
Largs rounded off their clutch of cups in the 1950s with a win in the Ayrshire Junior Cup on May 1959 by beating Glenafton Athletic 3-1 in front of over 3000 spectators at Ardeer Recreation, with David once more playing a key role in the game.
Cook, who was born and bred in Ardrossan, was in his early 90s, and over the years regularly watched Thistle play, and attended the 2013 promotion battle between Largs Thistle and Ashfield at Barrfields Park. He also managed the club for a short spell after he hung up his boots.
Former Scottish Junior Football Association President Gordon Law, who was match secretary at Largs in the 1970s and early 80s, said: "I was an extremely young man at the time and Davie was one of the iconic figures in that 1950s.
"In fact, one of my predecessors as president promised Davie Cook a grandfather clock if he managed to reach 100 goals in a season - but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
"Davie always remained in football and was a regular visitor to Barrfields, and both his sons were involved in football - Derek Cook playing for Stranraer and Kilmarnock. while his other son Jim played for Largs for a while.
"Davie was a typical old fashioned centre forward with a tremendous physique - he was good in the air and on the ground, and he had a strong rivalry with Dalry centre forward Billy Walker - and they would battle season after season for top scorer.
"He was an iconic figure of the 1950s team, and I have many happy memories of him."
In a news cutting from 1954, the 'News' reported on Cook's stunning impact in Thistle's long awaited trophy in many a year when they lifted the Vernon Cup: "Largs Thistle were not to be outdone as they reached their first cup final for 30 years.
"Thistle went on to conquer Cumnock in the final by the impressive aggregate score of 7-2; Thistle recorded a second leg victory 5-2 at Townhead Park with all five goals coming from the legendary Davie Cook.
"It was a night of much joy for Thistle supporters, who travelled in large numbers to Cumnock. At the final whistle, they swarmed on to the field to acclaim their team and Cook, in particular, who was surrounded by enthusiasts offering their congratulations.”

"The victory celebrations were renewed in Largs when a large crowd had waited for the return of the official bus on its arrival at the railway station, with team captain Walter Cameron given a rousing reception for displaying the trophy."
In a club statement from Largs Thistle, it said: "Everyone at Largs Thistle is saddened to hear about the passing of 1950s Thistle striker Davie Cook this morning. Davie joined Thistle in 1952 from Saltcoats Vics and played at Barrfields until 1959/60, rejecting a move to English league side Barrow in 1955.
"Davie netted an astounding number of goals, and also represented the club for the Scottish Junior FA side. All of us would like to send our condolences to son Derek and the Cook family."
Thistle President Peter Connor said: "It was a fantastic achievement scoring that amount of goals. I am very sad to hear that Davie has passed away and our thoughts are with his family."

A minute's applause in celebration of Davie Cook's life was held before the Hurlford v Largs Thistle game on Wednesday evening.
