Local firefighters have been praised for their swift action in dealing with another blaze on the back hills of Largs.

Crews were called shortly before 9am on Tuesday, June 13, following reports of a fire on Bellesdale Avenue.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.50am on Tuesday, June 13 to reports of a fire in the open on Bellesdale Avenue, Largs.

"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene, where firefighters extinguished an area of grass alight.

"Crews left at 9.36am after ensuring the area was safe."

Largs Councillor Todd Ferguson told the News he was impressed with the speedy response and efforts of Scottish Fire and Rescue over recent days - including this morning's latest incident.

He said: "The fire brigade was super fast in responding and it looks to be well under control, it might be smouldering in the peat like what happens at Tarbert Hill in West Kilbride."

It was the second call-out to the location after a blaze on Saturday night, when three fire appliances were required as billowing smoke wafted as far as the town centre - with local businesses telling the News that the Main Street was 'full of smoke' at around 6pm.
