The directors of Largs Viking Festival are delighted with this year's Festival. Speaking on behalf of all the directors, this year's Largs Viking Festival has been an outstanding success. The crowds at the Viking Village and on the Prom on both Festival weekends are as good as anyone can remember.

We are especially pleased at the Parade which set the Festival off to such a good start.

We have had people from literally every corner of the globe attend the Village. They came from as far away as China, Korea, Uruguay and Australia as well as all parts of the United Kingdom.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the authenticity of the Village and the professionalism and humour of the resident "Vikings" was much commented upon.

The Starduster Too and Typhoon air displays delighted the crowds on each Saturday.

There were three separate markets and, for the first time, the markets were open on all nine days of the Festival.

I cannot recall seeing so many people in Largs for many years as there were on the Festival Weekends . In some ways it was just like the good old days, with queues outside the fish and chip shops and cafes serving an endless stream of customers.

And, as always, North Ayrshire Council provided the Party at the Pencil as a climax to the Festival.

We also wish to thank North Ayrshire Council, EventScotland, Magnox, EDF, Largs Golf Club, The Flower Room, Clark's Amusements, Maritime Craft Services (Clyde) Ltd and Race Watson and all those who helped us in kind for their valued support. Without them the Festival would not be possible in its current form.

Next year, which is the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs, we plan to produce a bigger and better Festival for that special anniversary and the Festival Board has already started work to ensure a memorable Viking Festival in 2013.
