An autographed Ryder Cup cap including the signatures of all the participants in the winning 2002 team captained by Sam Torrance is one of the unique memorabilia items on display at the new Largs Heritage Centre.

The special St Columba"s Parish Church display opened to the public with a special ceremony last Friday with Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson cutting open the ribbon.

A few famous faces also feature in the new exhibition including Tiger Woods pictured with Largs golfing coach Bob Torrance.

The centre which has been arranged in partnership with the Historical Society concentrates on the Brisbane connection, life in Largs during the two world wars, the history of St Columba"s Parish Church and relics dating back to 3000BC.

The new heritage venue will be open daily Monday to Saturday and includes audio handsets which allow you to walk around the town visiting places of interest while video films of Gallagher and Lyle and the Skelmorlie Aisle will also be on show.

The centre has been set up with the support of a 45,800 grant from the Heritage Lottery fund and includes contributions from Graham Lyle and Benny Gallagher, Bob and Sam Torrance and Daniella Nardini.

Interviewed in our "News" video are Ken Welch, Gallagher and Lyle, MSP Kenny Gibson and Brigadier Monro, one of the last descendants of the Brisbane family.

* The new centre is still looking for more local artefacts, in particular 1st. World War, or Commando memorabillia, so if any have tucked away safely any of the above, or historic articles relating to community life in or around Largs, the Centre would only be too pleased to exhibit them.
