Largs Rotary have donated £12,000 to a range of different charities during the past year.

A number of local, national and international groups have benefited from the handouts as part of the group"s charitable endeavours. As part of the international element of fundraising, the Largs Rotary donated £100 to Stone Corners Rotary Club in Australia for their bushfires appeal in January.

The Club was founded in 1958 and today has about 40 members. There are no age limits. The Club"s core activity is raising funds for worthy causes.

Largs Rotary is part a worldwide organisation of men and women who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities at home and overseas. Its more than 1.2 million members aim to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.

As part of the Rotary donations during the past year, the biggest donation was £3128.70 for Cancer Research UK. Local groups to benefit included Largs Youth Theatre (£200), Cumbrae Primary School (£100), Helter Skelter (£200), and Largs Boys Brigade (£100).

Children"s Hospice Scotland received £1100, as did the Ardgowan Hospice who received the same figure. The RI Polio Campaign received £500 for the local Rotarians while the Teenage Cancer Trust, HollyBush House, and Help for Heroes each received £200 each.

Others to benefit included Schools 4 All, Diabetes Scotland, Aqua Box 30, and the James McFarlane School.
