Mudbaths and laughter classes will be part of the activities on offer at the proposed five star destination retreat for relaxation on Wee Cumbrae.

Wealthy Glasgow care home owners, Sam and Sunita Poddar purchased the island for £2 million and staged a spectacular opening ceremony last month, but have now set their sights on expanding the facilities on the isle and will work with North Ayrshire planners to achieve their goals.

The Patanjali Yog Centre Scotland will cater for between 50 and 100 guests at a time.

Yog promotes health, happiness, and inner harmony using breathing techniques, physical exercises, and postures designed to re-energise, rejuvenate and revitalise the mind, body and soul. Individual treatment plans include a diet of superfoods, juices, fruits and herbal remedies.

A publicity brochure handed out to visitors to Wee Cumbrae stated: "Guests will be able to experience the benefits of natural cures as well as cleansing and detoxing treatments such as colonic irrigation, sinus cleansing, mud baths and therapeutic massages.

"Laughter classes will uplift the soul and meditation will provide time for contemplation. Guests will also be encouraged to take daily walks so they can explore the magnificent history of the island, and experience the natural beauty of the island including its natural streams, inland lochs and rolling hills. Guests will leave the peace and tranquiliity of this beautiful island feeling healthier, happier and healed." Herbs and vegetables will be grown on the island and methods of sustainable energy are being considered by the owners and yoga guru Swami Ramdev Ji and his followers, A visitor centre to pay tribute to Wee Cumbrae's extensive history is also proposed, while there are plans to encourage educational school visits, cultural exchange visits, walking trails and activities for nature lovers.
