The spectacular shimmering colours of the aurora borealis was spotted throughout the local area on Wednesday evening.
Peter Ribbeck captured this magnificent image at Seamill, looking over to the Cumbraes, while others reported sightings all the way up to Greenock, including Largs 'News' editor David Carnduff, who stays in Inverkip.
Said David: "I ventured up to Loch Thom and was amazed at the vivid colours in the night sky. It was like a heartbeat in rhythm, and the shimmering light was truly stunning. It died down shortly afterwards, but it was wonderful to see the aurora in the local area."
